Overview of Nanotech BC
Nanotech BC has three mandates:
- Advocate - Provide a voice for the British Columbia nanotechnology community, both at home and internationally.
- Stimulate - Foster a thriving nanotechnology community where government, academic and business stakeholders can meet and support each other.
- Educate - Communicate with industrial, academic and government sectors as well as with the public to increase awareness of nanotechnology and what it means for BC.
Initially the needs of the research community are a priority. As nanotechnology enters the marketplace, Nanotech BC’s emphasis will shift towards fostering a thriving nanotech business sector in British Columbia’s economy. Nanotech BC will also respond to national and international initiatives by connecting business, academic and governmental stakeholders.
Nanotech BC will achieve its aims by:
- Facilitating linkages between BC and other regional, national and international organizations.
- Providing a forum for researcher networking and infrastructure development.
- Fostering entrepreneurial research activity by enhancing linkages with industry.
- Coordinating provincial interests around nano-related ethical, environmental, economic, legal and safety issues (NE3LS).
- Expanding understanding of nanoscience and nanotechnology on a province-wide basis.
- Providing intelligence to industry and academia, by way of watching briefs, industry sector studies, researcher profiles, workshops and conferences on a revenue-generating basis.
